 The Dolomites, a cycling paradise.

«Are they stones or are they clouds? Are they true or is it a dream? »(Dino Buzzati, Italian writer).

The Dolomites, also called the Pale Mountains, are a group of mountains in the Eastern Italian Alps, south of the main Alpine chain, between Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli, between the provinces of Belluno, Bolzano, Trento, Udine, Pordenone , Vicenza and Verona, with a part also included in Austria (Lienz Dolomites).
They are among the most renowned naturalistic-environmental and tourist areas of the Alps, home to a national park and eight natural parks and the largest Italian ski area, as well as a UNESCO heritage site.
The Dolomites involve the name of the French naturalist Déodat de Dolomieu (1750-1801) who was the first to study the particular type of rock predominant in the region, named after him in the Dolomites.

Dolomiti Superski is the largest ski area in Europe: 1200 km of slopes and 10.5 million daily ski passes sold per year.
At sunset, the Marmolada and all the Dolomites turn pink: the phenomenon of color change is called Enrosadira. The rock originates from the accumulation of shells, corals and limestone algae, which began 250 million years ago. Punta Penìa, on Marmolada, is the highest peak (3343 meters).
